Cisco Discloses Social and Environmental Peformance(A)

More than two years ago, Trillium Asset Management started encouraging one of our top holdings, Cisco Systems, to report annually on its social and environmental policies and programs using the external standards provided by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). We eventually filed a shareholder resolution calling on the company to take this action, which we withdrew for the chance to work collaboratively with the company on systems to manage and report on its efforts to act responsibly. This week that hard work paid off as Cisco published its first Citizenship Report, based on the GRI. With this report, a quarter of the companies in the widely-watched S&P 100 index are now issuing annual GRI reports.
