Trillium Hosting Boston Reception to Celebrate Shared Interest’s 20th Anniversary
October 28th Reception includes a performance by award-winning South African Musician Wouter Kellerman & Friends
BOSTON, MA // OCTOBER 2014: Shared Interest, a nonprofit social investment fund which began at the fall of Apartheid, is celebrating its twentieth anniversary – as well as twenty years of democracy in South Africa with a reception in Boston, MA on October 28, 2014.
“Our firm is proud to host this 20th anniversary reception for Shared Interest”, said Matthew Patsky, CEO of Trillium Asset Management, a Boston-based investment firm. “As a member of Shared Interest’s board, I have seen first-hand the assistance, in the form of access to credit and technical assistance, which the organization provides to hard working emerging entrepreneurs, farmers and home-owners in Southern Africa.”
Donna Katzin, executive director of Shared Interest, applauds South Africa’s historic political and economic progress since the end of apartheid in 1994, but acknowledges that “apartheid’s economic scars and the inequities of the global economy have left a growing gap in South Africa and bordering countries between “haves” and “have-nots.” Katzin explains, “Shared Interest has provided access to credit and technical assistance by mobilizing loans and donations from impact investors, philanthropists, faith-based organizations, foundations and corporations. Shared Interest’s guarantees totaling $16 million have moved banks to unlock more than $96 million in loans to new entrepreneurs once considered “unbankable.”
Shared Interest’s Board Chair, Timothy Smith, who is Senior Vice President of Boston’s Walden Asset Management – one of the evening’s corporate hosts notes, “Shared Interest began their 20th anniversary honoring Archbishop Tutu and Reverend Mpho Tutu in New York City this past February. It is fitting that they close such a milestone year in Boston – an area of the country that has historically been a strong base of support for the anti-Apartheid movement and of Shared Interest.”
The reception, which will be held at One Financial Center in Boston, MA, includes a special musical performance by award-winning South African musician, Wouter Kellerman & Friends. His appearance follows an October 4th performance at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall. Wouter’s recent release, Winds of Samsara, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s New Age Chart and has been described as “stunning, to say the least”.
The reception will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at One Financial Center, Second Floor, Boston, MA 02111. Tickets are $75 and are available online at www.sharedinterest.org/events or by phone at (646) 442-0186.
