Trillium Asset Management Applauds Senate Vote on ANWR(A)
In a time when little news from Washington is good for the environment, Trillium Asset Management applauds a decision by the Senate March 19 to block oil drilling in the sensitive Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Senate voted 52 to 48 against allowing drilling in the refuge, in what The New York Times called a “stinging defeat” for President George Bush who has repeatedly called on Congress to open the refuge to drilling.
Since 1998, Trillium Asset Management has worked with other investor groups and environmental groups to press major oil companies on the issue of drilling in the refuge. In the fall of 2002, we scored a partial victory when BP pledged not to lobby for opening the refuge to drilling and withdrew from Arctic Power, a coalition lobbying for drilling in the refuge.
